2.40 Ascot – Hydrangea 10/1 & Magical 13/2
Another race where we can’t split two and where we’re happy to take on the short priced Fav, who has yet to prove herself on such testing ground and came up short last time in the St Leger. Hydrangea really does need soft ground to show her best and relished this test when winning this race last year. She’s raced on ground too fast all season and can return to her best here, which is a very high standard. Her stablemate Magical is another who’ll relish the soft ground and looked like she really appreciated the step up in trip last time in the Arc. Although she only finished 10th, she was forced to race widest of all and finished her race off very strongly, in fact almost as well as Kew Gardens’ who’d previously out-pointed Lah Ti Dah fairly comprehensively at Doncaster. The two O’Brien fillies are the ones to beat.
