2.45 Newbury – Israr – WON 3/1 (Adv 4/1)

A very well bred colt by Taghrroda (winner of an Oaks and King George), who’s shown some good form in just 3 starts with the promise of plenty more to come. A winner on his debut in a race where the 2nd and 3rd have both won since. Israr then ran 2nd under a penalty, where the winner himself followed up next time. He very much looked a long term prospect as a 2yo and again gave that impression when reappearing in a hot handicap at Newmarket, where he finished 3rd behind Educator. Given a patient ride that day, he’ll have benefitted from that run fitness wise and experience wise and is expected to be a good deal sharper for this. He’s a nice horse and can prove himself a fair deal better than an 89 rated handicapper and the season progresses. Hopefully starting with a victory here.

Notebook Comments:Newmarket, IsrarSlightly slowly away, he raced just behind the eventual winner for much of the race and looked to make his challenge on the stand side of the group inside the final couple of furlongs. Not quite able to match the pace of the front two he ran all the way through the line giving the impression he’ll be suited by a stiffer test of stamina. This is always an informative handicap and the front 3 are all likely to be competing off higher marks as the season progresses.
