3.55 Kempton – Cognac – WON 16/5

Makes plenty of appeal on his All-Weather debut, being by Invincible Spirit who’s progeny have a really good record on an artificial surface. His form suggests an opening handicap mark of 87 could well underestimate his ability after just the 3 runs. A nice debut at Chester beaten 5 lengths by Breathalyze, who went extremely close for us on his reappearance when 2nd off 88 (raised to 94 since) in a very good Newbury handicap, where he and the winner pulled clear of the field. Cognac then won his maiden really well from a subsequent winner at Musselburgh before returning to Chester and renewing rivalry with Breathalyze. He’d clearly improved significantly as having travelled well and pulled clear of the small field he only narrowly failed to deny the winner by a neck, with 3 lengths back to the third, who had finished in front on Cognac on the earlier Chester run. A bold strong travelling front runner, we fully expect him to prove a good deal better than his handicap mark of 87.
