Desert Icon was a notebook horse from the Craven Meeting at Newmarket having made an eye-catching debut over a mile behind UAE Jewel. We suggested a step up in trip would be beneficial and that’s exactly what he got next time when wining his maiden at Pontefract, albeit at short odds. It was a surprise to see him step back to a mile last time and whilst he ran well in 3rd place, he looked in need of a good deal further. Stepping into handicap company for the first time here, a mark of 85 seems potentially lenient, especially now he steps up to 1m4f for the first time. With the stable hitting a 25% strike rate in the last couple of weeks and Ryan Moore booked, he’s well fancied.
With a number of bigger yards running here, Jersey Wonder is a bugger price than he should be. Really well regarded by the Jamie Osbourne yard, he ran a race full of promise on his return to action and at around 20/1 and bigger is well worth a saver bet.
