We have Makram as a notebook horse running on the big race at Redcar, and whilst he’s sure to be a major player, he’s a pretty short price. Preference is for Good Birthday, who was demoted when winning at Newmarket recently, with a saver on Makram.
4.40 Redcar – Good Birthday (e/w) – generally 8/1
William Hill & Skybet Top 5 Places, generally Top 4 Places.
Saver – Makrham (half stakes) – generally 3/1
A return to form last time for Good Birthday wearing the visor for the first time. He travelled like the winner throughout the race, and whilst he did get his head in front, he was demoted to 2nd having hampered the eventual runner up, with the front two clear of the field. He’s still very nicely handicapped on his best form of a couple of seasons ago, and will really appreciate this quicker ground. With that run suggesting a return to form, he’s taken to build on that and run another big race here, with the Andrew Balding stable is really good form at present.
Makram ran a cracker stepping up to this trip last time and is worth a win saver, albeit at slightly restrictive odds in a competitive handicap.
