5.15 Aintree: Tiger Roll (9/2) & Rathvinden (8/1) & Up For Review (40/1)
The Grand National, must be a bookmakers dream, but such a spectacle and made even more so with a little investment.
Tiger Roll is looking to emulate Red Rum in winning back to back Nationals and whilst it’s clearly some ask with no horse doing so since “Rummy”, Tiger Roll is out of the ordinary and has looked better than ever this year. He’s a must for anyone’s short list, even at a pretty short price.
Rathvinden looks to have a lot in his favour and is a pretty classy chaser, having a decent year last year. A winner of the NH Chase at Cheltenham last season, he stamina isn’t an issue, a fine staying on 4th in a Graded event after that, albeit the race was a bit chaotic if you watch it, but he finished strongly. Held back this year until after the weights for this race were released, he made his reappearance and beat a decent sort in very good style. This looks to have been the plan and with a clear round he’s a massive player.
Up For Review was tanking along at Cheltenham until a blunder 3 out ended his chances and he faded into 8th place. That run suggested he has the ability to win a race off his handicap mark and at a big price he’s worth giving another chance. Having contested graded events previously, he’s also been well regarded.
