Whilst no account bet today, we do have Iridessa (Ten to Follow) and Happen (Notebook) running in the Group 1 Pretty Polly Stakes.
Both are decent prices and will appreciate the drying ground and trip.
5.25 Curragh – Iridessa and Happen, small win bet on each,
Iridessa – 14/1 Paddy Power, Bet Victor, generally 12/1
Happen – generally 33/1 (n/r)
A cracking Group 1 contest where Wild Illusion sets the standard from the older fillies and she’ll surely strip fitter for her return run in France. Her best performances have tended to be when encountering a little cut in the ground, and with the 3yo fillies receiving almost a stone, we feel it’s the younger brigade that is likely to land this valuable prize.
Pink Dogwood is the short priced Fav, following a fine 2nd in the Oaks at Epsom, but that doesn’t look particularly strong form for a Classic and she’s plenty short enough having only ever won at Listed level.
That’s brings us to Iridessa and Happen, both of whom we’ll have a small interest in.
Iridessa was one of the top 2yo’s last season, winning the Fillies Mile, from non-other than dual Guineas winner Hermosa. Whilst she has been slightly disappointing this season, being by Ruler of the World, be felt she’d be more of an Oaks filly than a Guineas filly, so now she finally steps up in trip, and much improved effort is highly likely.
Happen has still got a bit to find with these, but she’s improving with every run and wasn’t disgraced when staying on in what was a very hot looking Coronation Stakes. As suggested in our notebook section, she’ll appreciate this better ground and most probably the step up in trip. The very fact Aidan O’Brien is running her suggest they feel she’s capable of a bold showing.
