Wetherby, Wishfull Dreaming WON 5/1
Having previously been with Phillip Hobbs and Olly Murphy and held in quite high regard, he’s never fulfilled the promise of his early career or breeding being a half brother to multiple graded chase winning Wishful Thinking. Having his 3rd run for his new yard he travelled really well here and was just done for toe by a speedier rival. He jumps his like he’s craving for a fence and would be interesting if stepped up to 2m4f over hurdles or if sent over fences.
Upd: Ran next time over fences and a trip of 2 1/2 miles – WON 5/1
Paddleyourowncanoe WON 6/1 < 11/1
Had proved himself to be a decent young handicap hurdler last year with a fine 4th in the Fred Winter at the Cheltenham Festival. A decent run on his reappearance, he was up against it on ratings here but ran a fine race staying on well to not be beaten far by an improving winner who made all and a very decent sort in 2nd. He stayed 1m6f on the flat and looks like he’d be suited by stepping up in trip over hurdles, he looks to have plenty more to offer this season.
Upd: Steps up in trip on Saturday and looks to hold really strong claims. – Ran well at Newbury, but the step up in trip on very testing ground proved a step too far.
Back on better ground next time, huge gamble landed WON 6/1 < 11/1.
Adrien Du Pont WON 9/2 < 13/2
Clearly appreciated racing on a decent surface and travelled at the back of the field really easily before making ground when the race started to warm up. Not helped by a blunder 4 out, he still turned for home travelled much the best and when looking likely to deliver a challenge at the last landed an all fours and lost all momentum. To his credit he stayed on in the home straight closing on the eventual third all the way to the line. But for those jumping error he would have gone close, but may be even better dropped back to 2 ½ miles.
Upd: Runs on Saturday over 2m6f which could well prove to be an ideal trip. – Travelled so strongly and was hacking over his rivals turning for home but didn’t get home. He needs to settle better in his races.
Retuned to better ground and an ideal track at Kempton – WON 9/2 < 13/2
Hawk High WON 5/2
A few jumping errors making his task in a hot little novice race much harder. As a result he never really challenged but still stayed on well enough into 4th on ground that was a soft as he’d really want. He’s fairly handicapped at present and can win off his current mark when racing on decent ground.
Upd: Returned to better ground at Newcastle, as with the main danger a non runner did the job well, beating an incorrectly priced Fav. – WON 5/2
We hope you enjoy the updates……..
